The “New Jersey Stronger Than The Storm” campaign is attempting a world record attempt at the longest ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the summer season. Gov. Christie will be co-hosting the Today Show and will be at Seaside Heights. The committee has chosen several shore towns to participate and Brigantine is one of them. We are asking that anyone who wants to participate be at the 16^thStreet parking lot between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM tomorrow, Friday, May 24. They have supplied us with one mile of ribbon that will run from 14^th Street South to 38^th Street South (depending on the number of people who turn out to hold the ribbon) the simultaneous ribbon cutting will actually take place at 8:30 AM. They would like the crowd to say “The Jersey Shore is open!” all in unison. We have notified the press including the television stations so it should be great, free publicity for Brigantine. Hope you can attend.

BRIGANTINE -Jersey shore businesses continue to proclaim that their ready to open for the summer.

Memorial Day weekend is coming up and Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno was in Brigantine today to proclaim shore businesses open for the summer.

Guadagno visited Hooper’s Seafood Cafe and the Pirate’s Den Restaurant.

Memorial Day weekend is considered the un–official start of the summer.

The Brigantine Beach Festival of the Winds – 6/15/13

Come down to the 38th street beach in beautiful Brigantine for some pre Father’s day kite flying fun on Saturday, June 15, 2013.

The South Jersey Kite Flyers will have a variety of kites in the air and will be happy to help everyone fly there own kites. There will be contests for the young and old.

Although the agenda is not yet final, some of the events and contests under consideration include:50 yard dash (Kids only) – Open to children between 7 and 12 years of age. Kites will fly on 50 feet of string – the string will be measured between 11am and 1pm before the contest. Contestants will race to the finish line while flying their kites. Winner must have their kite stay in the air for the whole race.Running of the Bols (Youth and Adult)- who can pull a large rotating bol downfield against the wind the fastest.

Highest Flying Kite (Youth and Adult) - Contestants launch their kites upon the starter’s signal and let line out for 2 minutes and then stop. The kite flying the highest wins the competition.

Highest Angle Kite (Youth and Adult) - Contestants will release 200 feet of string and stand on a designated line. The kite flying at the highest angle overhead from the point of mooring wins the competition. For example, a kite flying directly over your head would win.

Wind Sprint - Contestants stand on a line and launch their kites in the air without moving from the line. Whomever’s kite crosses the finish line 100 yards away first is the winner of the competition.

Best Homemade Kite (Youth and Adult) - Judges will determine the best homemade kite based on construction, framing, and flight. The kite must be able to fly of a minimum of 5 minutes.

Most Unusual Kite (Youth and Adult) - Entries are judged on theme, construction and design. Judges will look for odd, striking or novel features and shapes.

Crowd Favorite Kite - Audience response will determine the crowd’s favorite kite flying during the day.

Steadiest Kite (with or without a tail) (Youth and Adult) - Winning kite is the least active kite in the air.

Strongest Pulling Kite - Each kite’s pull will be measured in pounds.

Smallest Kite - Entries must fly on 25 feet of line and fly higher than the point of mooring.

Largest Kite - Square footage of the sail area will determine the largest kite. Kite Trains are not allowed. Kites must be capable of flying for one minute to qualify. Contestants are limited to three attempts in this event.

Oldest and Youngest Kite Fliers - Awards will be presented to the oldest and youngest event contestants. Contestants must fly a kite unassisted to be eligible for this award.
